Design Overview

Certified Pre-Owned dealerships provide an exclusive customer experience for both Audi Sales and Service. Exclusive CPO standalone facilities are required to follow the Audi architecture (exterior and interior design). All finishes, lighting, and furniture in the Certified Pre-Owned dealership follow Audi’s Advanced Showroom Concept (ASC) program. *

All customer touch-points must be exclusive to the Audi franchise including the sales showroom, presentation areas, and all line level management positions. Any facility investment must be pre-approved and CPO Showroom and Workshop must meet all current Audi Corporate Identity and Design requirements.

*These CPO guidelines do not apply to back-of-house spaces or staff-only areas.

CPO Facility Types

Certified Pre-Owned Dealerships may either be located on the same site as an Audi Terminal (either attached or detached) or may be built on a separate site as an independent facility. Within these different site conditions, there are three variations of CPO Dealership types.

  • Urban CPO: Applies to CPO Dealerships located on an urban site or at a prominent intersection; these facilities may either be attached to a multi-story Audi Terminal or be constructed on an independent site.
  • Stand Alone CPO: Applies to smaller CPO Dealership buildings containing a CPO Showroom and Sales Area. These dealerships may be located adjacent or in close proximity to an existing Audi Terminal or constructed on an independent site.
  • Warehouse CPO: Applies to larger CPO Dealership buildings intended to house a large number of CPO vehicles for interior display (particularly in colder climates). These dealerships may be located adjacent or in close proximity to an existing Audi Terminal or constructed on an independent site.

Urban CPO
These dealerships are typically located at a prominent intersection. The CPO Vehicle Display Areas should be adjacent to a main street to allow for visibility of vehicle inventory from the road. If attached to a Terminal, the site layout should accommodate easily moving vehicles in an out of the Service Workshop (typically ground level) and the CPO Vehicle Display (typically upper level). In this case, the covered CPO Vehicle Display area should be connected internally to the Audi Terminal and CPO Sales Area.

Sales & Customer Lounge
The interior furniture, lighting, and material selection provides flexibility, variety, and warmth to the various sales points and lounges. By installing various types of furniture arrangements, dealerships can offer multiple ways of interacting with customers, create a relaxing atmosphere, and tailor the facility to their needs. Sales desks can be arranged around a central spine that allows salespeople to work in close proximity.

Covered Presentation Area
The Covered Presentation Area
is located adjacent to the CPO Vehicle Showroom and serves as a convenient space in which customers may view certified pre- owned vehicles from the exterior presentation area. In addition to viewing vehicle inventory, this space may also be used as a point of Vehicle Delivery. The illuminated ceiling uniformly lights vehicles, while expansive wall graphics and clear glass doors communicate the brand to customers.
At least one wall-mounted E-tron charger should be installed in this space.

Proportion & Scale

Seen from the outside, the overall form for Stand Alone and Warehouse CPO dealerships should be one continuous volume; the Showroom and Service Workshop are all the same exterior height.

In cases where an Urban CPO dealership is connected to a Terminal Showroom, there are three distinct building volumes: the Terminal Showroom, the Service Drive, and the Workshop/CPO Display. In this organization, the Workshop is housed within the ground floor of the CPO volume and a Mezzanine above the Service Drive connects the CPO Vehicle Display to the CPO Sales Area.

Ceiling Heights in Stand Alone CPO
The ceiling heights in CPO facilities are varied to distinguish programmatic areas. The simple interior architectural language highlights the Audi vehicles on display and creates the refined brand experience.

In Stand Alone CPO, the varying ceiling heights create distinct areas for the:
• CPO Showroom and Sales Area
• Offices
• Service Workshop

Ceiling Heights in Warehouse CPO
In Warehouse CPO, there is generally one continuous interior height with exposed and painted structure, however, there is an option to include a mezzanine along one side of the dealership to create space for Vehicle Delivery and Vehicle Inspection with a Sales area above.

Showroom Layout
Each vehicle is required to
have a fixed and unobstructed viewing area, through which customers can pass, open vehicle doors, etc. This view area measures 13’ x 21’ in size, or 275 square feet. Depending on the building type, vehicles should be positioned parallel to the principal curtain wall facade and staggered from each other to maximize circulation and visibility. In addition, the vehicles should face toward the main entry or vestibule.

Vertical White Corrugated Metal Facade

The exterior of a CPO dealership is clad in a white, vertically-oriented, corrugated metal sheeting. It provides a continuous surface around the building and distinguishes the Stand Alone CPO dealership from other Audi facilities. This material also comes in a perforated option, which is optimum for use in renovations of existing buildings — the material can run over existing window openings allowing existing windows to stay in place all while creating a uniform facade. This material is cost-effective and is used on all faces of the CPO dealership, with the exception of the showroom facade.

The Stand Alone and Warehouse CPO facilities are intended to be constructed as a prefabricated metal structure — this economic and efficient system is ideal for simple, large-span buildings. The same white corrugated metal sheet cladding is to be used for workshop buildings, when they are present as attached or detached buildings at the CPO dealership.

Vertical Showroom Curtain Wall
The CPO Showroom typically faces the street and is highly visible to passing traffic due to the wide expanse of the curtain wall glazing. The total vertical dimension of the curtain wall framing matches the overall height of the building volume, providing a visually open space. The curtain wall glazing is restricted to the Showroom area and the remainder of the volume is clad with the vertical corrugated material.

CPO Stand Alone Buildings
In Stand Alone and Warehouse dealerships, the curtain wall passes in front of a structural soffit / ceiling of the CPO Showroom and extends to the parapet.

The curtain wall consists of mullions every 4’-0 on center. The vertical panels of glass should not be interrupted by any intermediate horizontal mullions. All mullions are capped with a 2-1/2” face dimensions and should be at least 10” deep.

Locate any structural columns behind the center line of the mullions.

Entry Vestibule
Located at the transition from the Showroom curtain wall glazing to the solid wall clad in white vertical corrugated metal is the Entry Vestibule.

It is the legible point for customer entry into the CPO showroom. It is to be positioned in close proximity to the primary customer parking on the site. The vestibule is a recessed space in the primary elevation.

The interior structural soffit positioned behind the curtain wall glazing should extend out into the entrance vestibule for visual continuity. Showroom glazing should continue above the entrance doors, providing a fully visible and open entry sequence. Provide a durable walk-off mat material at this and all other points of entry to the building.

Exterior Vehicle Display
Exterior presentation areas may be implemented for an organized display of Certified Pre-Owned vehicles. For such display areas, a numbered grid arrangement provides structure and communicates the Audi brand architecture while also making vehicles easy to locate for customers and staff.

Vehicle Presentation Grid
Vehicles are arranged in a 20’x20’ grid of marking stripes.

Vehicle Presentation Grid
This 20’x20’ grid also orders the distribution of light columns/ poles. The overall lighting grid places light columns at an interval of 60 feet. At particular highlight zones, the light column grid may increase in density, to a light fixture every 20 feet. At least one E-tron charging station should be installed in the exterior presentation area.

Vehicle Presentation Layouts
This grid concept is flexible and can be adapted for many parking and drive lane arrangements.

Site Materials
The basic guideline for the surface of the site is to define areas of homogeneous materiality. A sleek, minimalist design character, combined with simple graphic markings on the pavement, reinforces the Audi brand. The pedestrian areas are delineated from the vehicle drive with clearly defined markings on the pavement.

Site Lighting
Vertical light columns should be used at approximately 60’- 0” intervals around the site, but preferably not in front of or near the Showroom curtain wall. Lighting around the Showroom and Vehicle Display is best achieved with light bollards.

Note that particular attention must be paid to accommodate local ordinances; in particular, those governing light pollution and light trespass.

Landscape
Trees and green space should consist of muted green tones, without colorful flowers. Vegetation around the building should also be low in order to maximize visibility of the Showroom display vehicles and circulation. Lawn surfaces and low ground cover surrounding the Showroom also reduces glare as well as frequency of window washing by absorbing driving rain at the glass perimeter. At the perimeter of the building foundation, gravel or monochromatic vegetation may be used.

Where trees are required by municipal ordinance, the building layout and tree placement should take into consideration where views into the Showroom are maximized.

Advanced Showroom Concept
The interior furniture, lighting, and material selection is from the Advanced Showroom Concept (ASC) to provide an interior that is consistent with the Audi brand architecture.

CPO Primary Signage

The type of signage mounted to the building is dependent upon the site conditions — CPO facilities attached or located on the same site as an Audi Terminal have different requirements than CPO buildings on independent sites.

In total, there are 3 required signage elements: Audi rings (for CPO facilities on independent sites), authorized dealer nameplate, and a monument pylon.

1

Shared Site with Audi Terminal
If located on the same site as an Audi Terminal, the CPO facility does not require the installation of the Audi ring logo.

Regardless of site condition, and “Audi Certified: pre-owned” and dealer nameplate should be at- tached at the CPO dealership.

Independent Site
If the CPO facility is located on an independent site, one (minimum) or two sets of Audi ring logos may be attached to the building.

Regardless of site condition, and “Audi Certified: pre-owned” and dealer nameplate should be at- tached at the CPO dealership.

Monument Sign
In addition to building signage, a monument pylon sign should be placed on the site at the main point of customer entry.

Depending on local signage regula- tions, this monument may be sub- stituted with a pylon or twin-pole brand sign.
