Architecture Guidelines / Neutral / Signage

Signage
Signage is used to maintain the integrity of the brand. It identifies Audi’s presence and generates interest. To ensure visibility from a distance, Audi’s brand signage is prominently displayed on the site, the exterior of the building, and throughout the interior as wayfinding.

Primary Signage

The following are required primary signage elements:

1 Audi Rings
2 Name Element
3 Entrance Element signage

4 Audi Service Drive signage

5 Audi Pylon

6 CPO Pylon or Flag Sign

See “Signage by Type” section below for specific design guidelines. For all illuminated signs, please take into account the mounting details and electrical coordination early in the design process.

Rings
1

Audi rings are the central signage element on Audi architecture and have a long-distance effect.
For this reason, they are always in a prominent position on the top corners of the building. They reflect the daylight and stand out clearly against the background. At night, the rings are internally lit and glow white.

Size
The size of the Audi rings depends on the height and volume of the building. The proportions of the rings and the building are thus kept in balance.

When several logos are present, only one ring size should be used.

1

Position
- The rings are the top priority signage element. They are always positioned at the top corners of the showroom volume, on the main showroom facade(s) facing the street(s).
- All sets of rings should be mounted at the same height.
- When located on two or more streets, several ring logos are used. Two logos should not be placed together in the same corner of the building.

1 Two logos facing two parallel streets
2 Two logos facing two main streets that are perpendicular
3 Three logos on three main facades (at a junction)
4 Do not position multiple rings on the same building corner

Audi Name Element
1

The Audi name element displays the dealership name using the convention “Audi [City]”.
“Audi” is in red, with the remaining letters in contrasting black. The letters are internally illuminated at night, making the black letters appear white.

The size of the name element corresponds with the scale of the ring logo and is always located above the main showroom window on whichever facade faces the main street.

1

Position
The name element is always visually linked to the rings. It’s aligned horizontally with the facade’s rings. In the United States, the dealer nameplate (i.e. City) is always linked to the “Audi”.

Note:It is the global standard to keep the rings and Audi logo together, but Audi of America has been granted the exception to group the “Audi” logo with the dealer nameplate.

Lower Building Volumes
For single story showrooms, the name element is positioned horizontally across from the rings. It is aligned with the inner edge of the rings.

The “Audi” letters and the dealer nameplate is typically located on the opposite showroom window edge from the rings.

The name element should not be closer to the rings than one ring’s width.

Entrance Element

It is composed of a small set of rings and Audi logo. This element is non-illuminated.

Size
Audi entrance rings come in two sizes: 1000 mm (a) and 670 mm (b). Choose size depending on the proportion of vestibule, for both attached vestibules (1) and freestanding vestibules (2).

1

Position
The entrance element signage is mounted on the aluminum surface next to the main vestibule doors and centered horizontally on the aluminum panel. The rings are always above the Audi logo with both elements left-justified. The top of the rings should align with the header of the vestibule doors.

2 Freestanding vestibule

Audi Service Drive
1

The Audi Service Drive signage marks the customer entrance to Service Reception.
The sign is internally illuminated at night, making the black letters appear white. Electric red and green lane signals are recommended on center above each door, below the Audi Service Drive signage.

1

Position
The Audi Service Drive letters should be located above the full- vision, high speed rolling doors. They may be either left justified to the left-most opening, or centered over the high speed door openings.

Optional lane numbers may be used to designate service drive lanes. These should be aligned to the left edge of each rolling door.

Reduced Signage
In special cases, the total area of signage must be reduced to meet local requirements. In these instances, the standard signage may be shortened to read “Audi Service”. Confirmation of signage limitations is required to shorten Audi Service Drive signage.

Audi Pylon
1

The pylon is the central element of long-range signage.
The pylon is formed of aluminum composite panels and internally illuminated at night. It contains the Audi rings and logo and the dealership address — no additional signage is permitted on the Audi pylon.

1

Position
The pylon should be located as close to the main road as possible, in a readily visible location. Ideally, it is placed near the main curb cut to the site. The Audi pylon is always oriented at a right angle to the primary road.

CPO Sign
1

To indicate that the dealership sells Certified Pre-Owned vehicles, a CPO ground sign is required.
A CPO flag or monument sign should be placed on site, near the CPO display parking. The optimal position of this sign is at a main point of entry for customers.

Parking Signs
Customer parking signage is required by Audi to delineate the extent of spaces dedicated to customers. Handicap signage is not required, but highly recommended, especially if located in front of any of the showroom curtain wall glass. Both are consistently branded with Audi CI. These signs are non-illuminated.

Interior Signs
1

Required Signage
In order to pass assessment, all dealers must have a Wifi sign. If a facility has a cashier, Audi requires compliant signage to indicate its location. These signs may be either wall or ceiling mounted.

1

Strongly Recommended Signage
Wayfinding is of high importance, therefore it is highly recommended that wall or ceiling mounted signs be included to indicate areas such as:
- Service Reception
- Retail Parts
- Café
- Customer Lounge
- Restrooms

Audi room identifier signs have paper inserts and can be mounted on walls or glass partitions.

Interior Directional Signs
Audi also offers wall mounted (1) and freestanding (2) interior directional signs, which should be located and used as needed.

3

Egress and Fire Safety Signage
These signs are not required to pass assessment, but if egress signage is required by the Fire Department then this sign template should be used so that all signage within the facility is consistent.
